Azure in focus: Azure Data Catalog overview & Intro to Azure Data Lake Analytics

It's time for a new meetup and this time Antonio Abalos Castillo will present Azure Data Catalog and Erik Flateby will then give us an introduction to Data Lakes!

Food and beverages will be provided :-)

Featured Presentation:

Azure Data Catalog overview - registering data assets

Antonio Abalos Castillo, Data architect Avanade

In today’s data solutions, more data is available to more people. More often than we think, users will get overwhelmed by the uncountable data sources we have the possibility to use. Using a Data Catalog is a mandatory requirement to bridge the distance between data sources and data users. The Azure Data Catalog presents a modern, neat and easy-to-use solution which can be implemented in a matter of minutes!!

About Antonio:
Started as a humble .NET developer, now with several years of experience in the Microsoft Data Platform, mainly in the Azure cloud. My work involves designing and architecting Data and Analytics cloud solutions. Happy to share experiences and tales from the trenches :)

Introduction to Azure Data Lake Analytics

Erik Flateby, Data Platform Solution Architect Microsoft

Azure Data Lake Analytics is an on-demand analytics service that lets you submit and run massive analytical jobs on petabyte-scale data, with no cluster management necessary! This session quickly introduces the service, its intended use cases, and concepts of parallelization/execution plans before going through lots of demos. We'll look at examples of jobs both small and big, tooling for authoring jobs, and even show how you can do non-trivial, scalable Cognitives Services image and text recognition! This session is level 200 to 300, but anyone with a rudimentary understanding of SQL, .NET and big data problems should be able to follow along. Session attendees will leave with an apprecation for the big-data power now available to them.

About Erik:
Erik Flateby is Data Platform Solution Architect with Microsoft Norway. Before that he was an independent BI consultant and founder of Acuit A/S. Holding an MCSE:BI certification and having used SQL Server since version 2000 his area of expertise is ETL, data warehousing and reporting. He is also a Microsoft Certified Trainer. Outside of work he enjoys sci-fi and the great outdoors surrounding Oslo.
